MAY 2007

Wednesday, 5/30

The Summer 7 on 7 schedule has been finalized. There is a good possibility that the 7/18 and 7/25 dates will be scheduled earlier so as not to conflict with Summer Baseball or Basketball participation. The times have yet to be set but we are looking at a 3pm or 4pm start time.

Wed. 7/11 6pm @ South Plainfield HS
Wed. 7/18 TBD @ South Plainfield HS
Wed. 7/25 TBD @ South Plainfield HS

Joining Dunellen and South Plainfield will be Highland Park HS, Plainfield HS and Orange HS. That is a whole lot of speed on one field. We will need to be in shape to run with those teams.

SUNDAY, 5/6

All current football players, any new players who want to join the team AND all incoming 9th grade players are encouraged to participate in the teams off-season training and conditioning. Dunellen Football's conditioning program is a solid off-season training regimen that gives our student athletes an edge and will help prevent injuries when the next season begins.

Off-season training has many advantages. Some of them include having the body better prepared and acclimated to the specific demands of football. These demands can include tolerance to the environmental conditions (heat and humidity), adaptations to the body such as strength and power, and resistance to injury. Do not join a club when you have our great weight room to train in. We expect our players to train together as a team. Train more, play more. Participate more, play more. It's that simple.

APRIL 2007

Tuesday, 4/24

As the 2006-07 school year winds down please be about encouraging our players to finish the school year strong in their classes and their training. Let?s make sure they get those C?s up to B?s and B?s up to A?s and do their very best in the classroom. Continue to encourage great nutrition and rest as we wind down this busy school year.

As graduation rapidly approaches I want to remind all of our current juniors who are expecting to go through the football recruiting process to get online and apply for the NCAA Clearing House this spring. The Clearing House manages the SAT and ACT test scores and other NCAA eligibility information during senior recruiting. SAT and ACT testing dates and Clearing House information are available on the Dunellen Destroyer Football website or in the high school counseling office. To access the information from our website click on Links at the top of the front page and then hit Coach DeNapoli's favorite sites.

We will be participating in a Wednesday night passing league again this summer at South Plainfield High School at 6:00pm for all of our varsity quarterbacks, fullbacks, wingbacks, tight ends, linebackers and defensive backs. We will be joined by South Plainfield and a few other schools to be named later for some great summer competition while working on our passing offense and defense. Please make note of this and speak (in advance) with your other summer coaches (baseball, basketball ) so as to avoid any conflicts.

Monday, 4/23

Welcome to the first of which I hope to be many installments of the Dunellen Destroyer Football Newsletter. As we prepare for our upcoming 2007 football season I would like to take a moment to thank the parents and supporters for all their hard work and sacrifice. A very special thanks to the Dunellen Football Fan Club for their tremendous devotion to the Destroyer football program. Through the years their tireless efforts have provided t-shirts for the team and cheerleaders, as well as sandwiches and gatorades for the players after scrimmages. Through their efforts this past season the coaching staff was able to purchase a video editing system worth $4,000. This system will enable our staff to work more efficiently in breaking down our opponent's game films as well as create video highlights for our players. The in-season dinners have become quite a tradition highlighted by the players and cheerleaders speaking afterwards about their experiences as members of the Destroyer Football Family. It can get quite emotional as many a tear has been shed as parents listen as their children speak from their hearts about their teammates, coaches, and the brotherhod of being a Destroyer.

I would be remiss if I did not mention and thank the Dunellen High School Booster Club for their tremendous support. It is through their tireless efforts that all the student athletes are recognized at our end of the year sports banquet where they receive their Varsity Letters and other special honors. The winners of two $500-$750 scholarships are also announced at the evening's affair. If you have never attended a Destroyer football game then you owe it to yourselves to sample the delicious grilled cheeseburgers that the Booster parents cook up and provide to our football players along with water and gatorade after each home game.

We offer a special thanks to the Dunellen Lions Club who have quietly supported the Destroyer football program with various donations that have gone toward the purchase of equipment that helps our athletes immensely. The membership of this club is composed of men with tremendous character and integrity. They along with the members of the Dunellen-Green Brook Rotary Club cannot be thanked enough for all their efforts in helping support "ALL" the different groups and individuals throughout our community.

Rob Zampetti, owner of Gold's Gym in Green Brook has been a true friend of the Destroyers football program for years. We believe Rob is a tremendous role model for our student athletes. His servitude to the community and especially the youth tells a great deal about his character. Some people serve if compelled to do so. And some will serve in a crisis. But you can really see the heart of someone who initiates service and generosity to others without expecting anything in return.
